Gavin Floyd has been a pleasant surprise for the White Sox going 2-0 on the season with a solid 2.03 ERA with teams only hitting .159 against him. Now he gets a shot at a Baltimore team that has scored 3 or less runs in 4 of its last 5 games. Opposing Floyd will be Jeremy Guthrie for Baltimore. Guthrie pitched well in his last two starts giving up only 4 earned runs in 13 innings of work. The long ball has been a problem for Guthrie, as he has allowed one home run in each of his starts. Chicago hit at a .345 clip against Guthrie the only time he faced them giving up 6 runs in 7 innings. Look for Guthrie to run his record to 0-2 against the Sox after tonight.

Tonight we have two teams with a lot of similarities going against each other. Both teams are sufficient on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Ohio St. has the edge offensively in recent games, shooting 50% over its last 5 games, while Dayton has connected on 46% of its shots from the field in its last 5. Defensively, Ohio St. has allowed only two teams to go over 50% from the field on the season, while holding opponents to 39% from the field on the year. Dayton has been solid defensively also, allowing on 5 opponents to go over 50% from the field on the season, while holding opponents to 43% from the field on the year. So one must ask,, does this justify an 8 point line in favor of Ohio St.??? Early in the season Dayton had wins over Louisville and Pittsburgh, but those were the only quality wins they had. They were blown at at Xavier by nearly 30, and at one point had 5 road losses in a row, with some of those losses being to the likes of Richmond, Lasalle, and Rhode Island. Ohio St. has had some very good wins against quality opponents at home and should be able to cover the number here tonight.

Ok,,,Dallas has now won 5 in a row,,,and yes I know those wins were against the 5 worst teams in the NBA!!! But they won the games they were supposed to win, and won them convincingly both straight up and against the spread, all by double digits! I also know that the Mavericks are 0-5 against playoff teams since acquiring Jason Kidd, but 4 of those 5 losses were on the road. Dallas plays very well at home where they boast a solid 29-4 record. Dallas has also shot 53% from the field in their last 5 games while holding their opponents to a steady 39.9% from the field. Gasol played just under 3 minutes for the Lakers in a 108-98 loss at New Orleans on Friday. With him out of the lineup teams will be paying more attention to Bryant, and it showed as the Rockets and Hornets both held the Lakers to Under 41% shooting from the field. The Lakers have lost 4 straight at Dallas, and with Gasol most likely not playing tonight, are in danger of making it 5 in a row.

This North Texas team has found a rhythm on offense, scoring just under 78 points a game in its last 5 outings. They are not to shabby on defense either, holding its last 5 opponents to 39% shooting from the field. On offense they are led by guards Josh White(14 PPG) and Collin Dennis(14 PPG), while forward Quincy Adams leads the team with 8 rebounds Per Game. North Texas has won 4 straight, while their opponent, La-Lafayette has won 3 of 4. La-Lafayette plays very solid defense, having held their last 5 opponents to just under 40% shooting from the field. The Cajuns top scorer is guard Elijah Millsap with 10 Points Per Game. For the Cajuns to have a chance tonight, someone must step up, and the most likely candidate will be Millsap. Rest assured that North Texas is very aware of this and has the perimeter players to limit his production tonight. North Texas has won 4 straight in this series, so I will gladly take the small point offering and look for North Texas make it 5 straight over the Cajuns.

Being off for six days certainly affected the Detroit Pistons last night!!! They got hammered 105-83 by a solid Orlando team that meant business!!! Now the Detroit players are not a bunch of happy campers and get to take their revenge from last nights humiliating loss out on a Milwaukee team that has been off for seven straight days. We have several key factors going for us and Detroit tonight. Even with last nights loss, Detroit has allowed opponents to score only 88 points a game and shoot only 41% from the field in its last 5 outings. Milwaukee has allowed opposing teams to score 102 points a game and hit on 48% of their shots in their last 5 games. What makes this game more favorable for Detroit is the fact that they have won the last three games by scores of 114-69, 117-91, and 121-95. I am not afraid to lay the 6 1/2 points in this situation. Detroit obviously has Milwaukee's number,,,and they will punch this ticket tonight!!!
