#302 Vanderbilt +9 1/2

2-Units (6:45 P.M. CST) (ESPN)

A lot of folks are falling for the revenge angle in this matchup. What revenge you ask? Vandy went into Columbia, South Carolina and upset the then ranked #6 South Carolina Gamecocks last season. Both teams won their opening games this season. However, Vanderbilt played up to expectations on both sides of the ball, while South Carolina struggled on offense at times, before finally putting North Carolina State away with their defense pitching a shut out. One thing that I like to look at in these special ESPN games is the quarterback situation. Vandy will be starting a senior Quarterback in Chris Nickson. Nickson threw for 21 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in his sophomore and junior seasons while completing 53% of his passes with a 73 quarterback rating. He opened the season against Miami of Ohio with one touchdown and no interceptions, while completing 56% of his passes and a solid 94 quarterback rating. South Carolina will be starting red shirt sophomore Chis Smelley who stepped in and did a superb job after regular starter Tommy Beecher was knocked out with a shoulder injury last week. It must be noted that Beecher was sacked 5 times and continually harassed resulting in him throwing 4 interceptions last week. Smelly came in the game and completed 5 straight passes and wasn't sacked in his short period of time in the game. Now Spurrier thinks that Smelly, a guy that was sacked 17 times in 7 games last season can come in and lead this South Carolina offense to a road victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores on a nationally televised ESPN game. Keep in mind, South Carolina's offensive line allowed 7 sacks against Vanderbilt last season, and they allowed 5 last week against a below average North Carolina St. team. The Gamecocks also looked very sloppy by committing 4 false start penalties last week, and that trend could continue in this highly touted road trip to Vanderbilt.

Take the Vanderbilt Commodores +9 1/2 for 2-Units.

NFL: Opinion New York Giants -4 1/2

Thanks and Good Luck
